Thanks for this. I've lived in Asheville for 15 years and have also just discovered the term solostalgia, which led me to your article. It's the closest description of how I've been feeling since Helene. Like you, I cried during my first post-storm yoga class. We live close to the Swannanoa River in East Asheville and our landscape has drastically changed. I appreciate the emotions you've shared here, it helps, and wish you the best on your new journey in ATL.

Thank you so much, Caroline. It helps me a lot, too, that you shared this. I am so sorry for what happened to your beautiful area. The Swannanoa River district was my favorite hood in Asheville next to the RAD, largely due to the collection of wonderful secondhand stores and warehouses, housed in really cool old river-adjacent buildings, all giving it a really edgy yet peaceful feeling. I loved it there, and my heart hurts when I think of that area. Sending you a big hug from ATL.
